Ewing saddles are already a solid benchmark—long fibres, consistent taper, and enough softness to actually move in the water instead of sitting there like wire. What Richard from Kindale has done here is take that raw material and push it properly into saltwater territory.

These have been dyed specifically with baitfish patterns in mind. Not random bright colours—targeted, fishy tones that actually imitate something. You’ve got blue and grizzly blue for sandeel and anchovy profiles, olive and grizzly olive for anything estuary-based, and chartreuse and grizzly chartreuse when you need visibility and trigger. It’s a tight, deliberate colour range that covers most real-world scenarios without fluff.

The dye job matters. These aren’t overcooked or brittle—feathers keep their structure, sheen, and most importantly their movement. That means when you tie sparse, layered flatwings or streamers, the fibres breathe and collapse properly in the water instead of clumping or kicking stiff.

Length and usability are where these shine. You’re getting plenty of long, clean feathers with minimal waste, so you can tie bigger profiles without digging through the saddle for usable sections.

Bottom line: this is Ewing quality, dialled in by someone who actually ties and fishes saltwater flies.  The right feathers, in the right colours, doing exactly what they should.
