Ewing Feather Birds started in 1989 when Jerry and Doug Ewing partnered with Joe Keough, initially raising capons and supplying white and grizzly hackle that fit the market at the time. Doug later took over day-to-day operations, maintaining a reputation for high-quality regional feathers. In 2015, third-generation owner Cole Ewing stepped in and pushed expansion, acquiring new genetic stock from Alvin Theriault in 2021 and the Root River Hackle line in 2024. Today, Ewing Feather Birds continues to expand its genetics and product range, with a clear focus on producing top-end hackle to meet the full needs of modern fly tyers.
